Dr. Marilyn Hopkins

Dr. Hopkins was appointed Dean of the College of Health and Human Services in the Fall of 2000. She has a Doctorate and Master of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from California State University, Sacramento.
Dr. Hopkins is a graduate of the Management Development Program at Harvard University, the Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration at Bryn Mawr College and Leadership Sacramento, a program of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. In 2003, Dr. Hopkins received the Bautzer Faculty University Advancement Award from the California State University System to recognize her interest and achievements in fundraising.
As chief academic and administrative officer in the College, Dr. Hopkins is responsible for curricula in 7 divisions and departments, 5010 students majors, 249 faculty, 34 staff, and a budget exceeding $12.4 million. Her scholarly interests have been in the area of information-seeking behavior as a copy strategy. For 4 years, she secured and managed grant funds to support the Capital University Service Corps, an AmeriCorps Project in low-performing elementary schools. She also directed a multi-year grant which sent interdisciplinary groups of students and faculty into the community to work with high risk children, youth and families. Dr. Hopkins serves on the Board of Directors for the Sacramento Region Community Services Planning Council, the Leadership Council for Hands On Sacramento, and the NorCal Board for the Office of Women in Higher Education associated with the American Council on Education. She is also a member of the Workforce and Education Committee, which reports to the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and the Science Pipeline Subcommittee of the Healthcare Workforce Collaborative.
