Social Work is a profession which strives to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people in vulnerable life conditions. Social Work focuses on the interdependent well-being of the individual and society, especially attending to the social context that creates, contributes to, and addresses obstacles and resources for individual and community growth and development.

Social workers seek to empower the capacity of people to address their own needs and to influence the responsiveness of organizations, communities, and other social institutions to individuals' needs and social problems. Thus they promote social justice and social change with and on behalf of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Towards these ends, multilevel practice activities include direct practice, community organization, supervision, consultation, administration, advocacy, social and political action, policy development and implementation, education, and research and evaluation. In all of practice, social workers are sensitive to cultural and ethnic diversity and work to combat discrimination, oppression, poverty, and other forms of social injustice.
