What are the deadlines for Conditional Grad Students?

Graduate Admissions deadlines apply to conditional graduate students. Please visit the Office of Graduate Studies at http://www.csus.edu/gradstudies/ or contact the (916) 278-6470.

How long does the graduate program take?

It takes two years of full-time work with a BS in Speech Pathology. If starting as a junior, or if starting with a BA in another field, it takes four years of full-time study.

What ages does the Human Development Course requirement need to cover?

Human Development requirement is a lifespan course that covers birth to death/old age.

How many times may I repeat a course?

The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology stipulates that a class may be repeated only once without special Department permission. A class may be repeated if the student receives a C- or lower grade. The new grade replaces the original grade. The total number of classes within the major may be retaken is limited to two at the undergraduate and two at the graduate level.

The department dos not offer any online courses.

Does the Department offer courses at night?

Some of our courses are offered at night but many of the required sections are only offered during the day.

How many fully classified students does the Department accept into the grad program?

We accept 15 classified graduated students into our graduate courses and clinics each semester.

How many clinics/semester of clinics are required?

Ten Clinics or four semesters of Clinics are required.

When do I submit GRE scores and letters of recommendations?

GRE scores, letters of recommendation, and other application materials should be submitted by the deadline date.

To whom do I apply?

You must apply to the University as well as the department.

The University application goes to the Office of Graduate Studies via the online application at www.CSUMentor.edu .  For full Graduate Studies application procedures, please go to http://www.csus.edu/gradstudies/

What’s the average GPA for accepted students?

The average GPA in the major for students accepted for Fall Semester is 3.7. The average GPA in the major for students accepted for Spring Semester is lower at 3.4.

Do I have to take the GRE?

If your GPA in the major is above a 3.5, you do not have to take the GRE.

What’s the average GRE score that the Department accepts?

For students who do not have a GPA in the major of 3.5 or above, the minimum GRE score is 900 for the Verbal and Quantitative sections combined or 4.5 for the Analytical Writing section. For those students who submitted GRE scores and were accepted, the average was about 960 for the Verbal and Quantitative section combined and about 4.0 for the Analytical Writing section.

When does SPHP 111L meet ?

SPHP 111L schedules are established in SPHP 111 during the first week of class.

What are the minimal course grades for the graduate program?

Grade of “C-“, “C” or “C+” is not acceptable in clinic. Any grade below a “B-“ must be
repeated. Students with two “C” level grades in clinic will not be allowed to continue the program.

Are background checks required?

The Department of Speech Pathology & Audiology requires all students in clinical and
internships practicum courses to complete a background check prior to beginning any
clinical courses in the semester. Please see the instructions below and contact the
department if you have any questions.

The completed background check information will only be revealed to the Speech Pathology and Audiology department chair and the Dean of the College Health and Human services. All information will be kept confidential.

No other background screenings may be substituted.

Are there any medical documents needed in order to participate in clinical courses?

Yes. You will need to provide documentation that you have: passed a tuberculin (Tine) test and have measles and rubella immunizations.
