California State University, Sacramento,

Minimum
Qualifications
Education
Master’s
Degree in Nursing required. Candidates must be doctorally prepared
or verified ABD at the time of application for tenure track position.
If ABD, the degree must be completed by August 1, 2009. Master’s
prepared applicants will be considered for a lecturer position which
may convert to tenure track upon completion of the doctorate during
the term of appointment. Sustained progress toward the doctorate is
required for retention. Eligible for licensure by California Board
of Registered Nursing and for the California Public Health Certificate
Knowledge/
Abilities
Graduate
preparation must include specialization in Medical-Surgical/Critical
Care Nursing. Coursework in curriculum and teaching content required.
Graduate preparation or recent extensive experience in related field
is also required. Participation in professional, scholarly, and community
activities will be considered in the selection process. Need to be
able to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants
must have experience and/or ability to work with a diverse student
population.
Experience
Minimum
three years cumulative clinical and/or teaching experience in Medical
Surgical/Critical Care Nursing, one year of which must be in acute
care practice within the last five years. Additional experiences in
a community-based setting desired.
Assignment
Team-teach and
supervise students in a variety of courses in the baccalaureate
and/or graduate program. Duties include classroom teaching, clinical
instruction, student advising, participation on committees, development
of student learning experiences, coordination with other courses,
community service and scholarly activities. Driving a vehicle is
required for this position. Possession and maintenance of a valid
state driver’s license and a safe driving record is a requirement
for this job. The requirement of maintenance of a safe record will
be automatically monitored by the University via periodic updates
from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Appointment
Tenure-track
probationary position at Assistant to Associate Professor rank if doctorally
prepared or ABD. Rank and salary commensurate with educational preparation,
university level teaching experience, and record of scholarship and
service.
If hired as a lecturer, the option to roll into a
tenure-track position when doctorate is completed may be offered,
however, sustained progress toward doctorate is required for retention.
If no progress is made after three years, lecturer will be given a
terminal year and not retained the fourth year.
