Bio:Dr. Piatt received her B.S. and M.S. in therapeutic recreation from California State University, Chico and recently finished her Ph.D. at the University of Utah in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. She has practiced recreational therapy in both clinical and community settings, including mental health, physical rehabilitation, and geriatrics. Her research focus is in using recreational therapy as a medium to promote wellness and active living.

Bio: Rebecca Gulas is an Undergraduate Student here at Sac State majoring in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration. After completing the Bachelor’s program, Rebecca hopes to become a Park or Forest Ranger.  Rebecca began working for the life Center in the summer of 2007 where she is currently employed as the Student Assistant.
 
Jana Allen

Bio: Jana Marie Allen, MS, has been a certified fitness professional for the past 25 years. She has a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology with emphasis in Aging and has taught fitness, balance, and strength and flexibility classes for the past 25 years. She is an adjunct faculty member of American River College and teaches in both the Physical Education and Gerontology Departments.
 

Valerie Miller

Bio: Valerie is nationally certified (since 2000) by the Aquatic Exercise Association as a fitness instructor and also has certificates for Pilates Coach, Just Pilates, S.E.T. Weightlifting, Group Leg & Ab X-Press Classes, Rep Reebok-Group Weight Training and Precision Cycling-Group Cycling. Valerie attends workshops, lectures and seminars to continue to learn and improve her teaching techniques.
 

Patricia Shaw

Bio: Patricia believes the key to independent living as we age is by having a flexible spine; and the only way for us to achieve that is through yoga.  She was introduced to yoga back in 1972, and recently became Certified in Raja Yoga June, 2007.  Patricia shares her passion of yoga with people seeking relief from the rigors of dealing with health issues ranging from Arthritis to Parkinson's Disease.   
 

Donna Rixmann

Bio: Ms. Rixmann received her BS in Education at University of Missouri, St. Louis, and her MA in Health Services Management at Webster University, St. Louis. Ms. Rixmann has had careers both in health care and in the business community. She is a registered yoga teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), with over 800 hours of professional yoga teacher training. In February 2007, she will be traveling to India to continue her study of yoga at the Himalayan Institute. Her specialties include teaching yoga for older adults and yoga for stress reduction. She shares with students her passion for yoga and her belief that the practice of yoga is not just a physical practice, but a life practice.

Bio: Ms. Freeman is a Licensed Massage Therapist who has a certification in Yoga and teaching credential for fitness programs for older adults. She is a member of I.D.E.A., a group for health and fitness professionals. Janice enjoys helping older adults maintain a high quality of life. She appreciates their great energy for life and for that, they are her inspiration.
