Criminal Justice
1970-1979
Russell, Dick. B.A. Criminal Justice, 1976. Russell's first career after graduation was with the Sacramento Sheriff's Department. Retiring from Sacramento County in 1991, he worked for the FAA as an Aviation Safety Inspector before retiring again in 1997. An adjunct instructor with Embry Riddle since 1981 at McClellan AFB, he currently serves as Assistant Professor of Aeronautics, teaching in Kansas at McConnell AFB, Vance and Oklahoma City. In October 2004, he was appointed Center Faculty Chair for Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (Extended Campus) at MCConnell AFB after retiring from Flight Safety International.
Gutheinz, Joseph Richard Jr., J.D. B.A. Criminal Justice, 1978; M.A. Criminal Justice, 1979. Gutheinz holds six degrees and six current teaching credentials, including a J.D. from South Texas College of Law; a M.S. from the University of Southern California; a M.A. from Sacramento State University; and California teaching credentials in police science, business and industrial management, sociology, public service and administration, and aeronautics. Licensed to practice law in ten courts, including the United States Supreme Court, he is an instructor for the University of Phoenix and the Alvin Community College, and is a retired Senior Special Agent with NASA Office of Inspector General. In July 2004, he was commissioned a member of the Texas Correctional Advisory Committee on Offenders with Medical and Mental impairments. Published in Geotimes Magazine, his article In Search of the Goodwill Moon Rocks: a Personal Account chronicles his undercover operation to recover an Apollo 17 moon rock for the people of Honduras; the valuable fragment was on eof many that President Nixon gave as goodwill gifts.

Aprile (Sykes), Melinda A. B.A. Criminal Justice, 1989. Working full time as a clerk, Aprile is marrid to Christopher and lives in Louisvill, KY, her husband's home state.
Harvey (Melton), Vanessa M. B.A. Criminal Justice concentration in Law Enforcement Management 1989. A Staff Services Analyst with the California Public Utilties Commissions in San Francisco, Harvey serves on the Board for the Homeless Children Network and has worked as a Girl Scout Group Leader and has authored a mentoring project for an Oakland church. A resident of Oakland, CA, Harvey has one son, Michael,a nd one grandchild, Josuan.
Perdock, Russell E. B.A. Criminal Justice 1985. Beginning his law enforcement career with the Lake County Sheriff's Office in 1986, Perdock is now Lake County's Cheif Deputy of Administrationa nd Cheif of Staf, making him second in command under the Sheriff. He says he plans on staying in the LCSD for the length of his career.

Bell, Kevin W. B.A. Criminal Justice and Communication STudies 1990. Bell earned his Juris Doctorate in June 1997 and was admitted to the Calfirnia State Bar that same year. He is presently a Deputy District Attorney with the Yolo County District Attorney's Office and an adjunct professor at U.C. Davis School of Law. He and his wife of 10 years have three boys: Ryan, Andrew and Matthew. The family resides in Davis.
Mattos, Bruce J. B.S. Criminal Justice 1990. A verteran of teh U.S. Army, Mattos is a Senior Recruiter in Human Resources Operations at Catholic Healthcare West where he was Employee of the Year in 1997 and 2004. He was also honored as Lambda Chi Alpha Alumni of the year in 1995 and 1997. He serves on the Board of Directors for Land Park Soccer, was a Youth Soccer Coach for five years, serves on the Holy Spirit Parish Committee and is active int eh Sac State Football Boosters Club. He and wife Julie (formerly Julie Yarwood, a Sac State alumna) live in Sacramento with their three daughters: Alexandra, Sophia and Caroline.
Mengotto, Blake Dante. B.S. Criminal Justice 1995. Mengotto is a Consultant Systems Engineer/Vice President. Married with two children, he lives in Rodeo CA and says his hobbies include anything technological related.

Gary, Charles D. B.S. Physical Education with emphasis in Biological Science 1969. Better known to his classmates as Ghuck, Gary is now the Principal of Milpitas High School. Among his many honors are two times ACSA Region 8 High School Principal of the Year; San Jose City College Hall of Excellence for RPofessional Educator; and the State ACSA Celebrating Diversity-Recognizing Excellence Award. "Creating Equitable Outcomes in Public Education" is a major focus on his efforts in and out of his role as principal. He belongs to CEBAS (Creating Equitable Bay Area Schools), a network of educators who meet 5 times a year to learn and share in order to improve practices and engage courageously in the profession. Living in Tracy, CA, Gary and his wife of 36 years, Mary, have three sons, Chad, Damon and Tyler, and one grandchild.

Dickinson (Beatty), Joy. B.S. Health Science 1999. Dickinson is currently Health Education Specialist. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and has been published in the American Journal of Public Health. She was married in 2001 to Kyle Dickinson.
Meece, Kelly J. B.S. Physical Education 1993; M.S. Counseling with emphasis in Career and School Counseling 1996; PPS Credential. Meece is presently an Academic Guidance High School Counselor in San Luis Obispo County. She is active within her community with activities such as Relay for Life Benefits, Supplies for Soldiers, Toys for Tots benefits and blood drives. In her spare time she enjoys outdoors activities including surfing, softball, football (she recently retired fromt eh Ladies Tackle Football League), gardening, skiing, fishing and hiking.
Verlin, Ron. B.S. Physical Education 1990. Verlin is the Associate Head Coach at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. His wife Barbie and he have three children: sons Trenton and Nathan, and daughter Kelsie.
1999-present
Zahniser, Shireen B.S. Kinesiology w/ teaching option, 2003. Presently a Physical Education teacher at the Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Hayward, CA, Zahniser says she is happily sharing life with her partner Leon and raising her two children, 10-year old Arick and 8-year old Ariana. Exercising helps keep her fit.

Staser, Karen B.S. Nursing 1999; CHPN (Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses). Presently a RN Case Manager at Kaiser Hospice, Staser is active in the California Nurses Association. She lives in Sacramento and enjoys bird watching.

Dulgar (Thorne), Cindi. B.A. Recreation Administration, 1988; M.A. Recreational Administration, 2005. Dulgar is the Program Director at the Sac State Aquatic & Boating Safety Center. She is actively involved in promoting boating safety and has received the National Boating Safety Education Advancement Award. Dulgar lives in El Dorado Hills with husband, Aquatic Center Director Brian Dulgar (a Sac State Business alumnus). They have two children Ciera & Briana. Dulgar enjoys water sports, water skiing, and snow skiing.
McIntosh, Sue. B.S. Recreation Administration (Therapeutic Recreation) 1989. Currently working as a Front Desk Coordinator while she is a graduate student at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, McIntosh expects to earn her Master's in Special Education in summer 2006. She resides in Farmington, MN where she volunteers at Special Olympics and serves as Secretary to the Serbourne Deckhomes Association.

Goldwyn (Mogerman), Julie. MSW Social Work 1984. Presently a teacher of 5th through 8th grade History and Science, Goldwyn has been married for 21 years and has two sons.
