Gloria B. Solomon earned her Bachelor of Science (1985) and Master of Science (1987) degrees in Sport Psychology at the University of Oregon. She obtained her doctorate degree from the University of California at Berkeley (1993) in sport psychology and sociology. An assistant professor of Kinesiology, Dr. Solomon teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in sport psychology, conducts research in athletic, and provides mental training consultations with athletes and coaches. In terms of her research interests, Dr. Solomon is known as the leader on expectancy effects in competitive sport. This line of research focuses on the influence of coach expectations on athlete development and performance. Gloria has over 10 publications on this topic and is in the process of conducting a large-scale study to create a measure to understand how coaches assess ability in athletes. The creation of a measure will help researchers and teachers understand coaches’ evaluative procedures and facilitate coach training programs.
