The College of Health and Human Services affords its students a high-quality education in 17 professional fields of study. Courses feature three components: the theoretical basis for the discipline; skills achieved through laboratory experiences; and field work, which allows students to apply classroom and laboratory knowledge to real life situations.

The college emphasizes the importance of community relationships and operates numerous programs throughout the region to improve the quality of life for area residents. The Mary Jane Rees Language, Speech, and Hearing Center provides important health services to area residents along with opportunities for students to obtain supervised experience within a clinical setting. The Sac-MENTORING Program fosters experiential learning for our students as they engage in mentoring relationships with students at the Hiram Johnson High School, and the Sacramento Unified School District's Academic Mentor Program. The College of Health and Human Services is proud to administer The Center of Health and Human Services Research (CHHSR). The center promotes interdisciplinary education, applied research, and program development in health and human services. Through evaluation, research, and program development, the CHHSR also provides assistance to community groups and agencies seeking to expand and improve their programs and services. The Center for African Peace & Conflict Resolution (CAPCR) is dedicated to providing training, education, research, and intervention services in conflict resolution in/on Africa and her diaspora in America.
